In the anime, there are usually genera found in the media audiovisual. These are action, adventure, comedy, science fiction, drama, children's stories, psychological, medieval, fantasy, romance and terror.

Much of the anime series may include two or more kinds of these. For example, action and adventure can be combined in very good way, which is given in series like One Piece, where the characters run through different places and, at the same time have fights. There are many series of this type, and is most commonly seen in the shōnen. Also, drama and romance combine in very good way, and many series are mixed (especially in the Shōjo). Also, mystery and terror, as in Detective Conan and Death Note, MONSTER
