Anime: demographic genres

The following shows the genres used exclusively for anime and manga:

Kodomo ( "child" ): anime focused on the audience of children. Examples: Hamtaro, Nichijou, Doraemon, Heidi.






Shōnen ( "boy" ): anime for boys and girls teens or pre-adolescents starring an adolescent boy, which often have magical elements and fighting of all kinds. Examples: Saint Seiya, Dragon Ball, One Piece, Naruto, bleach, fairy tail, Digimon, Beyblade.


  Shōjo ( "girl" ): anime focused on public female adolescent, usually with a girl protagonist. Examples: Sailor Moon, Cardcaptor Sakura, Shugo Chara, Candy Candy,Tokyo mew mew.






Seinen ( "man" ): anime focused on adult males, because it contains high level of violence, gore, sexual scenes. Examples: Speed Grapher, Hellsing Ultimate", berserk, MONSTER and Elfen Lied.



Josei (women): Encourage the target audience as young adult women. Where it covers the dramatic genres or counts in the life, also on sex from a woman's point of view. Examples: Nana
